Kenya 428 km power line complete, to add 310 MW to grid by December

A high-voltage power line to carry electricity from a 310 MW wind power plant to central Kenya from the north is complete and supply to the national grid will stabilise by December, the energy minister said, replacing diesel generation. The 428 km, 400 kV power line is critical for the Lake Turkana Wind Power project, to carry electricity from Loiyangalani in the north to Suswa in the centre of Kenya.

Transport committee says rail safety regulator should prioritise signalling challenges

The Portfolio Committee on Transport has on Wednesday called on the Rail Safety Regulator (RSR) to prioritise signalling in its programmes. The call comes after more than 100 people were injured on Tuesday after a collision between two passenger Metrorail trains at the Eloff extension in Selby, south of Johannesburg.

Moody's places MTN on review for downgrade

MTN Group has been put on review by Moody's for downgrade after the South African mobile phone operator said it was on the hook for a total of $10.1-billion from its biggest market Nigeria, the ratings agency said on Thursday. "MTN's ratings have been placed on review for downgrade to reflect the uncertainty around the potential implications of the recent CBN (Central Bank of Nigeria) and NAG (Nigerian Attorney General) announcements on MTN's credit profile," Moody's said.

Construction firm Basil Read said on Thursday that a creditors meeting to consider its business rescue plan was held this week, but that it had been adjourned to allow more time for affected persons to engage and consider the proposals made in the plan. The meeting will be reconvened on September 27, the company stated.
